Burkhalter leads Comets

NASELLE ---- Kyle Burkhalter nearly notched a triple-double as Naselle held off South Bend 61-53 in a Pacific 2B League boys basketball game on Thursday.Naselle (7-11, 5-7 league) locked up a berth in the District 4 Tournament with the victory.Burkhalter knocked down 6-of-7 shots and made 13-of-17 free throws for 25 points. He also grabbed 12 rebounds, handed out eight assists and made three steals."We switched things up and moved Kyle to the point, and he was able to create and get to the free-throw line," Naselle coach Brian Macy said. "Conor Smith was in foul trouble early, but he was able to come in the fourth quarter and score nine of his 11 points."Macy was also pleased with the defensive effort of Spencer Griss."That was probably his best performance of the year," he said. "He held Randy Eang, their leading scorer, to six points."Eang is averaging 18 points.Naselle visits Tacoma Baptist on Saturday.
