Comets crunch S. Bend

NASELLE ---- Haley Landis and Brandi Keightley scored nine points apiece, and Naselle's full-court pressure held South Bend scoreless in the second quarter Friday night en route to a 44-21 victory over the Indians in a Pacific 2B League girls basketball game.The Comets (6-4, 3-1 league) led 15-9 after a quarter, then applied the clamps in the second period and skunked the Indians 8-0."The girls got after it pretty good defensively in that second quarter," Naselle coach Bob Torppa said. "They (the Indians) only got three shots off the whole quarter."Cheryl Steppe grabbed 10 rebounds and Ashley Ahlstrom nine for the Comets. Erin Saari (six steals) and Colette Beaulaurier (four rebounds, three steals) also played well.Comets 44, Indians 21
