Fishermen reel in victory

ILWACO ---- Carl Oman netted 21 points and Jack Whealdon added 12 as Ilwaco countered a combined 36-point performance by Naselle's Burkhalter brothers to claim a 61-49 nonleague boys basketball victory on Friday.Ilwaco trailed 8-7 after the opening period, but rallied to lead 20-18 at halftime and 33-31 entering the final eight minutes."They (the Fishermen) went on a run late in the fourth quarter," Naselle coach Brian Macy said. "We also had Austin Burkhalter foul out with two minutes left, and that didn't help. Ilwaco played some good defense against us, and we were a little tentative at the offensive end."Naselle's Kyle Burkhalter led all scorers with 22 points and 11 rebounds, with Austin Burkhalter adding 14 points and 12 rebounds. Conor Smith chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.
