Comets girls lose last regular season game

TACOMA - A 48-39 loss to the Tacoma Baptist Crusaders in their last regular season game in the Crusaders gym on Feb. 8 dropped the Naselle Comets girls' team into a tie for fourth place in the Pacific League with the Crusaders. The loss meant that the same two teams had to meet in a playoff game on Saturday, Feb. 10. The loss dropped Naselle's season record to 8-6 in league, and 11-9 overall.The Comets fell behind in the opening period 11-5 but rallied in the second quarter for a 12-9 advantage to trail 20-17 at the half. Naselle gained a point with a 10-9 third period and trailed 29-27 going into the final eight minutes. The Crusaders then put together a 19-12 fourth quarter to earn their nine-point win.Naselle was led offensively by Brandi Keightley with 14 points, Erin Saari with 10 and Ashley Ahlstrom with eight. Ahlstrom pulled down five rebounds and Cheryl Steppe four to lead in that department.
